Description:
Using a portable document scanner, I swept across grass, bark, stones, moss and leaves in a secluded Sintra grove—where I had planted a sapling grown with my pet’s ashes—to capture high-resolution digital imprints. One month later, a hurricane uprooted every tree, and the forest as I knew it ceased to exist. These scans preserve the forest’s textures exactly as they were in that fleeting moment.
Concept:
By transforming these raw scans into layered murals, floating panels and immersive light works, I invite viewers to encounter the grove’s vanished surface from unexpected angles. The overlapping imprints—organic forms frozen in time—reveal the tension between presence and loss, fragility and resilience.
Artistic Intent:
This series interrogates how personal ritual and natural catastrophe intersect: the act of scanning becomes an intimate ritual of remembrance, while the hurricane’s aftermath underscores impermanence. Ultimately, the works ask us to reflect on memory as a material trace and on the fragile bonds that link us to places we hold dear.
